Samael was one of seven Archangels. As was said to have married Lilith. Jewish lore has him doing both good and evil as well as the head Angel over the 5th Heaven.

Samael was also Esau's Guardian Angel. He was also the one who Jacob wrestled with in his dream.

Samael is described as the "severity of God".
